The company behind TASS.
SIM DAD LLC is an Illinois limited liability company that builds local-first software: tools that run on your machine, keep your data on your machine, and are sold at prices printed on the page. TASS is its research flagship.
What we build
TASS (Text Analysis for Social Scientists) is deterministic, provenance-first dictionary text analysis: a free, open-source Community Edition (engine, CLI, MCP server) and a commercial GUI Edition (desktop workbench with inferential statistics, publication charts, and reproducible projects). Alongside TASS, SIM DAD builds a small family of desktop apps for writing, reading, and research work, all on the same principles: local-first, one-time purchase, no telemetry.
How we work
- Local first. Your text, results, and projects never leave your machine. The apps have no telemetry.
- Receipts over claims. TASS's methods are published, cited, and benchmarked in public; its statistics ship with an audit report against R.
- Open where openness matters. The Community Edition is Apache-2.0, and every TASS-native dictionary is released open (CC-BY-4.0 or ODC-BY), free for any use including commercial, in every edition.
- Buy once. No subscriptions. A license is a one-time purchase with the whole major-version series included.
